Romanticism, 2015
Format: HD, Dur. 3:29 min. Music by T. Bernstrup.

Romanticism is a collaboration between the artist Tobias Bernstrup and Sigtuna Museum & Art recorded in Saint Per's church ruin in Sigtuna.

Tobias Bernstrup has been working internationally for more than 15 years and has been noted for his works influenced by computer games and his transgender musical performances. His work exists in the borderland between the virtual and the real, fascinated by the dystopian landscape. This is a theme he has explored in several media, from interactive computer games, animations and paintings to sculptures and performances

Romanticsm is a performance film made in a music video style, recorded in Sanit Per's church ruin in Sigtuna. Historical references are mixed with religious symbols and fantasy-like elements as Tobias performs his song Romanticism dressed in a red cape and demon-like horns.

During Romantic period in art history, the ruin was a common theme among painters like Caspar David Friedrich. Something that Tobias investigated recently in his previous video South of Heaven, where he reconstructed a Friedrich painting in model format in which became the scene of the video.
